Graphic Communication Education
UNITING TECHNOLOGY AND CREATIVITY TO EDUCATE THE DESIGNERS OF TOMORROW!
The Graphic Communications program at Hawkeye Community College provides students with an education in print publication design and web design. Students are trained to utilize the leading graphic design software and latest web design technologies.
Students are provided with experience in design and layout, typography, desktop publishing, illustration, photo editing, photo shoot direction, pre-press production processes, interactive multimedia, motion graphics and animation for web, and web design and development.
There are three responses to a piece of design – yes, no, and WOW! Wow is the one to aim for.

Curriculum Different By Design
To address shortcomings in traditional higher education and to meet industry demand, faculty from the Graphic Communications program met with educators and industry employers from across the state of Iowa to design a curriculum that better prepares students for graphic design and web design careers.
The result: a curriculum that merges academic rigor, exposure to current technologies, and applicable experiences through an active project-based curriculum.
Learning by Doing
The mission of the Graphic Communications program is to provide students with a visual art education that is rich in ideas and is current in industry best practices.
Our philosophy is simple: the best way to learn something, is to do it. We prepare you for the rigors of working in the print design and web design industry by teaching cutting edge technologies in a hands-on format.
